Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Support Plans
When a child’s behavior disrupts classroom instruction, the problem is often addressed by manipulating events that follow the misbehavior such as verbal reprimands, isolation, detention, or suspension, and experience has shown that this approach fails to teach the child acceptable replacement behaviors. The objective of this training program is to teach participants the skills to evaluate, manage and monitor behaviors that are expected and appropriate for the circumstances. The success of classroom behavior interventions hinges on identifying the likely causes and purposes of problem behavior, as well as finding ways to teach and promote appropriate replacement behaviors that serve the same “functions” as the inappropriate behaviors.
