Assessing & Treating Non-Verbal Children Using AAC” workshop was held on the 25th and 26th of Febraury, 2022, in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and on the 4th of March, 2022, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, organized by Maharat Learning Center, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Maharat Arabia Learning Center, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and conducted by the Director of Technology Resource Center of Marin County, United States of America, Dr. Dan Phillips, MS, CCC-SLP. The workshop covered topics such as Augmentative Communication Assessments, Language Curriculum, Apps, devices and access, how to teach students Reading and Writing using apps and the new communication tool Coughdrop! Dan Phillips addressed many ways to utilize Augmentative Communication and applications to produce language using technology for non-verbal children, keeping in mind that every student learns differently, particularly special needs children. In this 20-hour workshop that is accredited by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, the attendees got valuable information that will help them implement AAC on non-verbal children and progress further in their careers.Maharat Arabia Learning Center provides a variety of specialized programs for children and young adults with a variety of learning and special educational needs. Our Center provides educational, therapeutic, consultation, and training services for children and young adults with learning, developmental, and behavioral challenges as well as training and professional development for schools, nurseries, learning centers and professionals. Our services includes educational, developmental and behavioral assessments, 1:1 behavioral therapy, tutoring for specific learning difficulties, school shadowing and school supervision and support services, professional training, vocational and life skills training, tertiary education support and job coaching. Our programs are individualized, our teaching style is unique and we utilize Assistive Technology, Augmentative Alternative Communication, ABA teaching techniques, online resources, virtual reality and other innovative technology to teach children and young adults the academic, social and life skills the need to succeed in school, college and life.Dan Phillips is a speech pathologist/assistive technology specialist and the founder and director of the Tech Resource Center Marin, a technology center that serves the assistive technology needs of over 4,000 students from the ages of newborn to 22 in Marin County, California.

Having previously been awarded California state-level highest honors for his work in the field of Speech Pathology, he was awarded Outstanding Schoolmaster and a Golden Bell for Teacher of the Year in California in 2015, was runner-up for Teacher of the Year for the state of California in 2016, was awarded Outstanding Tech Director from the Edvocate Tech Awards for 2017, and Outstanding International Contributions to the field of speech pathology by the American Speech and Hearing Association in 2019. The center now provides assistive technology training and support to over 40,000 teachers, students, and their families. Dan also is a professor at national Universities in the Bay Area, teaching assistive technology skills for Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Special Needs Teachers.The Chief Executive Officer of Maharat Arabia Learning Center, Dr. Hibah Shata BDS, MSc, FDSRCSI, expressed her thanks and gratitude for every participant of this workshop, which will enrich our children with communication skills and the ability to express using alternative means, which will help with their inclusion and integration in society.
